Family running a Jet Drive Exchange center console boat across the bay near Ocean City, NJ with waterfront homes behind them

The first thing new members ask after “which boat can I take?” is “how do reservations actually work?” Fair question. A boat club is only as good as your ability to get on the water when you want to, so here is the plain-English version of how booking works at Jet Drive Exchange, from your first reservation to a full-day outing on the bay near Ocean City, NJ.

Every outing is a 5-hour reservation

Each reservation is 5 hours long. That is enough time to leave the dock at Boat Yard Marina in Somers Point or All Seasons Marina in Marmora, cruise the bay, anchor up for lunch, tube or fish, and come back in without rushing.

You book through the member portal or the iOS and Android apps. Pick a date, a time slot, and the watercraft, and you are set. Your Boat Ride or Ride All membership covers unlimited usage all season long, May through October.

Keep three future reservations on the books

Members can hold up to three future reservations at a time. By default, one of those three can be a weekend slot. As soon as you finish an outing, that reservation drops off and you can book the next one. There is no cap on how many reservations you use in a season.

This is the single most useful habit in the club: always keep three future reservations on the calendar. The members who get out the most are the ones who rebook the same evening they come off the water. You can reserve as far ahead as you like, and we recommend planning at least a week or two out so you get your preferred day, time, and boat.

Weekends vs weekdays

Summer weekend slots are always the most requested, so the default rule of one weekend reservation in your three keeps things fair. Weekdays are where a membership really pays off. A Tuesday afternoon on the bay with a quiet sandbar and an easy ride back is hard to beat, and most members mix weekday outings in with their weekend slot.

Same-day bookings

Woke up to a perfect forecast? Same-day reservations are allowed when a boat is free. Just call, email, or text us. The catch is simple: day-of availability depends on what other members have already booked. Short notice can work, but the slots you reserve ahead of time are the ones that are guaranteed.

Want a longer day? Extensions and Double Time

Sometimes 5 hours is not enough, like a long ocean fishing run or a full family day on the water. There are two ways to stretch it.

  • Day-of extension: If nobody is booked on your boat right before or right after you, you can extend into that consecutive time slot on the day, when it is available.
  • Double Time: The standard package does not allow booking two reservations back to back. The Double Time add-on does. It lets you book back-to-back reservations for a full-day outing, or hold two weekend reservations instead of one. Ask us for Double Time details when you join.

Who needs to be there

At least one primary member has to be present for every reservation, and only primary members operate the boats or jet skis. Each membership includes two primary members from the same household, and every operator needs a valid Boaters Safety Certificate. Guests are welcome as passengers at no cost, so bring the family or a few friends.

What happens when you come back in

No trailer to hitch and no fuel dock stop on the way in. You bring the boat back to the dock, unload, and head home. You pay only for the fuel you used that day, charged to your card on file that night. A slow fishing day uses less fuel than a day of tubing, so you are never paying for someone else’s ride. The boat is then topped off for the next member.

A simple booking routine that works

  1. Finish your orientation and get your Boaters Safety Certificate squared away.
  2. Book three future reservations right away, including your one weekend slot.
  3. Every time you come off the water, book the next one before bed.
  4. Fill gaps with same-day calls or texts when the forecast looks great.
  5. If your crew wants full days, add Double Time.

Which membership to start with

The reservation rules are the same for both of our core memberships. Boat Ride gives you unlimited access to one boat per reservation, which is the right fit for most families and bay cruisers. Ride All gives you one boat or two jet skis per reservation, so you can switch it up from outing to outing.

The 2026 season wraps at the end of October, which makes now a good time to plan next summer. If you are thinking about joining for 2027, a quick discovery call is the easiest way to get your questions about booking answered.
