Planning a family boat day near Ocean City, NJ usually starts with a simple wish: get everyone on the water without a week of logistics. Own a boat and you own the trailer, the slip, the cleaning, and the off-season. Join a boat club and the day looks different — reserve, show up, enjoy the bay or river, bring it back.
At Jet Drive Exchange, that path starts with Boat Ride or Ride All. Those are the memberships built for boat-first family outings around Somers Point and Marmora. We do not lead with Solo Ski or Ski Party unless your crew specifically wants jet skis only.
What a family boat day actually looks like
A good family outing near Ocean City is rarely about covering the most miles. It is about an easy launch, enough room for kids and grandparents, and a plan that fits a real afternoon.
From Jet Drive’s docks you are minutes from the water people come here for: the bay, the Thoroughfare, a quieter cruise up the Tuckahoe River, or a fishing stop when the bite is on. Season runs May through October. The default reservation is 5 hours — long enough for lunch on the water, a swim stop when it is safe, and getting home before everyone is overdone by the sun.
You reserve in the Boat Club App. Pick Boat Yard Marina in Somers Point or All Seasons Marina in Marmora. At least one primary member must be present. Guests ride as passengers at no cost; only primary members operate the boat.
Boat Ride and Ride All for families
Boat Ride is unlimited access to one boat per reservation. That is the straightforward family pick when the day is about a deck boat, a cooler, and a crew that wants to stay together.
Ride All is unlimited access to one boat or two jet skis per reservation. Same docks, same app, same 5-hour slots. Some weekends you take the boat with everyone. Some weekdays two adults take the skis while the rest of the plan is land-based. Flexibility matters when kids’ schedules and weather do not line up.
Both packages keep the ownership headaches off your plate: no depreciation, no winterizing, no storage, no cleaning between outings. Insurance is included with membership. Members pay for the fuel they use. New members get orientation and training before they head out alone.
If you want the ski-only packages, ask. For most families comparing a club to buying a boat, Boat Ride or Ride All is the right first conversation.
Why families skip the trailer
Buying a boat for the Jersey Shore sounds simple until school nights, parking, and September maintenance show up. A family that boats a dozen good days a season often spends more time preparing the boat than enjoying it.
A club flips that math:
- No trailer in the driveway. You do not haul, store, or winterize.
- Guests are easy. Bring passengers; they do not need to be members to ride.
- Two primary members included. Typically a spouse or a child under 26 in the household — so more than one adult can reserve and operate.
- Unlimited usage for the season, with up to three future reservations on the books at a time (one of which may be a weekend by default).
- Same-day options when available by calling or messaging the club if plans change.
That is the family advantage: the boat day stays a boat day, not a project.
How reservations work (the 5-hour default)
Each reservation is 5 hours. You can hold up to three future reservations at a time. When you complete one, book the next. There is no cap on how many outings you can take across the May–October season.
Plan a week or two ahead for preferred weekend slots. Keep three future reservations on the calendar so your family days stay locked in. If you want full-day outings, ask about Double Time (back-to-back slots). The base experience for most families is still that clean 5-hour block — morning or afternoon — without owning the overnight chores.
Local water without the ownership load
Ocean City’s bay and the runs toward Somers Point reward a boat that is ready when you are. Jet Drive keeps the fleet at two nearby docks so you are not driving across the state for a short window of good weather.
Use the day for what your crew actually likes:
- Easy cruise and swim stops when conditions allow
- Tubing or wake fun when you have the right boat and a safe setup
- Fishing the bay or river without trailering before dawn
- A quieter weekday outing when the weekend crowds thin out
Totally Tubular Aqua Park is closed for the 2026 season and expected to reopen June 2027 — plan family days around bay, river, and open-water time, not an Aqua Park stop, until then.
